About the Foundation
Otto Mønsted (1838-1916) started the first margarine production in Denmark in 1883. In 1909, he founded Otto Mønsted A/S. As the Mønsted couple were childless, Otto Mønsted and his wife Anna Sophie Mønsted decided in 1916 that their fortune should be included in a foundation bearing the name Otto Mønsted. After the death of Mrs Anna Mønsted, the foundation charter was drawn up on 18 June 1934 and received royal ratification on 21 June 1934. Today, the foundation owns all shares in Otto Mønsted A/S.
