Do you know the story of OMA?

Businessman Otto Mønsted established the first margarine factory, Aarhus Butterine Co. in Denmark in 1883. In 1909, Otto Mønsted A/S was founded and the company’s primary brand was OMA, which is the abbreviation for Otto Mønsted Aarhus.
Many may remember the slogan “Say the name – OMA”, which was just one of many testaments to Otto Mønsted’s talent for branding and marketing. From the company’s inception in 1865, Otto Mønsted was a master at utilising the power of advertising and was personally involved in both the creative process and the branding of the ‘artificial butter’, as margarine was called at the time.
The company Otto Mønsted A/S stopped producing OMA margarine in 1981 and sold the OMA brand to Unilever. Since then, Otto Mønsted A/S has been an investment company, and the profits from this are the basis for the Otto Mønsted Foundation’s grants.

The gable advertisement, which is now reproduced in Den Gamle By, was like everything else carefully thought out by Otto Mønsted’s advertising people.
