The first charter in the history of the Otto Mønsted Foundation was signed on 21 June 1934, where §12 states:
“The main purpose of the Foundation is to contribute to the development of Danish Trade and Industry.”
In the most recent version of the charter, the following is written about grants:
“In particular, the funds to be distributed shall be used:
- To aid in the education of gifted, industrious, dedicated and impecunious young tradesmen and polytechnic students and graduates.
- For the training of teachers at higher commercial schools or at DTU, and possibly at the country’s technical schools.
- For the promotion and development of such plans or undertakings in the fields of trade and industry as the Foundation’s Board of Directors may deem to be conducive to Denmark’s trade and industry or otherwise be of honour to Denmark.”
Granting practice derived from the foundation charter
When determining the means, the Foundation Board has attached decisive importance to the concepts of “diligence” and “internationalisation” in the broadest sense.
It has also been important to find areas where the Foundation’s grants
be able to make a difference.
Favoured activities therefore include:
- Study abroad for students and researchers
- Participation in international congresses
- Attracting foreign visiting professors
- Organising international congresses in Denmark
